RHODRI Morgan today begins a tour of the Western half of Wales and will visit community projects, local businesses and meet local people in Carmarthenshire, Aberystwyth, Ynys Mon, Caernarfon and Bangor.
He will be promoting Welsh Labour’s work in government in delivering for the Welsh language and in securing more investment in our Welsh-speaking heartlands.
RHODRI MORGAN said:
“I am embarking on Welsh Labour’s two-day tour of the mainly Welsh-speaking half of Wales, promoting the importance of investing to secure strong communities that will survive and thrive into the future. That in turn will secure a thriving future for the Welsh language.
“Over the coming days I will meet hundreds of people in our mainly Welsh-speaking communities. I will visit successful community projects, businesses and public services that are all benefiting from Labour investment, and where the Welsh language’s main strength lies.
“I will be teaming up with Welsh Labour politicians who are champions of the language in their own communities. I will listen to people’s concerns and their hopes for their families and communities. I will take back what I hear and work with my colleagues to deliver better health, better education, greater prosperity and stronger communities.
“Throughout recent history it is Welsh Labour that has done the heavy lifting, indeed far more than any other party to protect and grow the language, as it has been labour that has delivered the dream of devolution into reality for the 21st century. From Jim Griffiths in the west, Cledwyn Hughes and Goronwy Roberts in the north, we have always been a party committed to the future of the language and the future of the whole of Wales. In more recent years, likewise, Labour has continued to take on that mantle and deliver prosperity, quality public services and a real future for all of Wales, including the mainly Welsh-speaking areas. ”
