Save Caia and Erddig nurseries
- Hazel Blears launches campaign with Wrexham Labour
HAZEL Blears will launch a campaign with Wrexham Labour to save nurseries in Caia Park and Erddig.
The Communities and Local Government Secretary will join local councillors, council candidates, AMs and MPs in the centre of Wrexham where they will collect signatures for a petition. The Liberal Democrat-run council is proposing to close the nurseries.
But Labour believes they offer vital facilities for parents and children in two of the poorest areas of Wrexham.
HAZEL BLEARS will say:
“This is Wrexham Labour on the side of local mums and dads, sticking up for vital local services that people in both Caia Park and Erddig really appreciate.
“Labour is committed to providing parents with every opportunity to get to work and build stronger families. That means providing support as a Government for parents to gain important parenting skills and helping them with the training they need to pursue successful careers. It also means allowing all parents, not just the better off, access to good, affordable childcare.
“Labour in Wales is delivering for young parents, with free part-time nursery care for all three years olds, and free full-time nursery provision for two year olds in Wales’ poorest communities. This is real action from Labour
“Sadly the Liberal Democrats seem more interested in closing nurseries, when what we actually need is more of them.”
Labour group leader NEIL ROGERS said:
“People are fuming that the Liberal Democrats could have the gall to attempt to close two vitally important nurseries, one of them in one of the poorest wards in Wrexham.
“This is out of order and I promise that if Labour regains control of the council in May then we will call a halt to these plans, backing local people.
“We are on the side of local people.”
