Prime Minister Brown's first official visit
Gordon Brown

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has made his first official visit as PM to a children's centre in north London.

Gordon Brown was accompanied by Labour’s Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families Ed Balls, Labour’s Deputy Leader Harriet Harman, and Dawn Butler, the Labour MP for Brent South. Labour’s team surprised parents at Fawood Children's Centre in Stonebridge, north-west London.

The children’s centre provides nursery facilities for around 60 two-to-four-year-olds but also delivers information, courses and services for adults - anything ranging from education classes to information about vaccinations.

Perched on child-size stools just after morning arrival, Gordon Brown spent ten minutes chatting to parents about the difference the centre makes to the community.

The PM told them:

"What a pleasure it is to be in such a wonderful centre with such great facilities and great children."
