In recent weeks it has become increasingly clear that the Welsh Conservatives have major cuts planned for public spending in Wales. Conservative spokesperson Andrew Lansley has stated that Tory election plans are based on cuts of ten per cent in public spending. Tory election chief Eric Pickles recently told the BBC that the Tory manifesto is already written - so why won't the Tories tell the public about their plans? We now know that the Welsh Conservatives will abolish free prescriptions in Wales but we must ask what else will be axed in the 10% cuts?
Are free bus passes safe and what about free swimming for children in local pools?
As Gordon Brown said to David Cameron in the House of Commons "You are the party of 10 per cent cuts in public expenditure. You are the party that would cut vital public services at a time of recession. We have brought forward public expenditure to help people stay in their homes, to help young people get into jobs, to help build hospitals. These are exactly the public services the Conservatives would cut savagely by 10 per cent and that is not to be allowed to hapen".
