CARWYN JONES AM will become the First Minister of the National Assembly for Wales when he takes the oath and is sworn in by a senior judge today (Thursday 10th December).

This follows on from Carwyn's election as the Leader of the National Assembly Labour Party on the 1st December, and a vote by Assembly Members yesterday.

The chair of Welsh Labour Garry Owen said

" We congratulate Carwyn Jones on becoming the new First Minister and look forward to working with him as the leader of the National Assembly Labour Party".

"We give our sincere thanks to Rhodri Morgan AM for all his acheivements as the former leader of Welsh Labour and his outstanding work as an ambassador for Wales". He said that "Rhodri might not be the Leader, but he would always have a leading place in our hearts".

After taking the oath as First Minister it is expected that Carwyn Jones will then begin to unveil his new Cabinet.
