WORKING TOGETHER TO BUILD A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR WALES - RHODRI MORGAN AND PETER HAIN

First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Secretary of State for Wales Peter Hain today (Monday, 29 June)  welcomed the Prime Minister's announcement on Building Britain's Future - and pledged to continue working closely together to build a more prosperous, stronger, fairer Wales.

In a joint statement, Rhodri Morgan and Peter Hain said: "Today the Prime Minister has set out the action needed to move Wales from recession to recovery; create a new model of economic growth; restore trust and accountability to the political system through democratic reform and renewal; and modernise our public services and national infrastructure.

"In Wales the UK Government and the Welsh Assembly Government have already been working hard together to deliver social justice and economic recovery for the people of Wales. A benefit of devolution is that in Wales we can tailor our policies to the specific Welsh needs and deliver made-in-Wales solutions and public services for the benefit of

all Welsh people.

"Our governments in Wales and at Westminster will continue to work closely in partnership to build a more prosperous, stronger, fairer Wales, whilst recognising our particular and varying responsibilities. Together we will always stand up for the people of Wales."
