Assembly Members Aelodau'r Cynulliad
Janice Gregory

Janice Gregory was elected to the first Assembly in 1999. As Chair of committees including the Communities and Culture Committee, she worked hard to ensure priority for regeneration, protection against abuse, steps to counter poverty and partnership between the Assembly and voluntary organisations.
As Chief Whip from December 2009 onwards she was responsible for ensuring that the Labour-led Welsh Assembly Government’s progressive policies were put into effect. She has enjoyed the opportunity to ensure that the Assembly delivers for everyone in Wales but she has remained a committed and active representative of her constituency.
Janice is proud of the new jobs, new schools, improved health services, free prescriptions, free bus passes, Flying Start schemes, Community First projects and the Western Valleys initiative which Labour has delivered for the people of Ogmore. She believes that there is a lot more to do and that this will not be easy in the face of the Tory/Lib Dem UK government’s savage cuts.
She chaired the campaign to stop the worst of the Lib Dem/Independent Coalition’s cuts in Bridgend County Borough and turn them out of power – and she will go door to door to rally opposition to the UK Government’s cuts.
Janice’s commitment is rooted in her community. She moved to the Ogmore constituency over 40 years ago with her mother Marion and her father, the late Sir Ray Powell MP. She and husband Mike have brought up two daughters in Pencoed. Now Janice works to ensure a fair future for her two young grandchildren and all today’s young people.
